 Bite work training begins with building drive and confidence through play and prey drive. The dog learns that engaging with equipment like bite sleeves and suits is fun, rewarding, and builds their confidence.
As drive and confidence build, we introduce the concept that protection represents a threat to be stopped. The dog learns to engage fully, with a powerful grip and strong commitment. Equally important, they learn to release instantly on command and disengage completely.

Controlled Aggression and Command Response
The foundation of protection training is that aggression activates only on command and deactivates equally quickly. The dog learns specific commands that mean “engage the threat” and “release and disengage.” These commands must work regardless of the dog’s stimulation level or the intensity of the situation. This is repeated hundreds of times across different scenarios until the response is absolutely reliable.

Our protection dogs complete their comprehensive development journey between one and three years of age. This age range represents the optimal balance between full maturity and adaptability to a new family. Training has had time to become deeply ingrained through extensive repetition and real-world application. The dog has been practicing their skills across months or years until those skills are reflexive and reliable.
