The Problem
Due to a rise in mass shootings, particularly in schools, the need for security is greater than ever. In just 2022 alone as of to date, there have been already 300 mass shootings. In the last decade there have been over 321 deaths related to gunfire on school grounds. As mental illnesses increase with a combination of racism and white supremacy, the shootings don’t seem to have an end in sight. In fact, even with armed security or police at the site of the crime, oftentimes nobody enters the building right away, which wastes crucial seconds and puts more lives on the line.
The Solution
A school protection dog provides a viable solution to all of the above issues. Our dogs are trained specifically to recognize weapons, such as handguns, automatic rifles, and knives and attack the dominant arm. An Israel Protection K9 will immediately alert the handler of any issues and without hesitation jump into action. With the K9 in pursuit and identifying the threat in the quickest possible manner, the handler / security guard can follow the K9 straight to the attacker and provide back up with the danger mitigated as much as possible.
The Process
The process for training a school security k9 is unique and specialized for every individual school. We tailor fit the training program to fit the exact needs of the campus. All dogs are trained to do extensive perimeter searches and follow the sounds of gunshots and commotion. From the early age of about two months, the training program begins. The dogs are put through rigorous exercises, which develop discipline and incredibly high tolerance to high stress scenarios and physical strain. By the time the dog reaches young adulthood, at about a year and a half, an Israel Protection K9 is expected to know over 35 commands and have had every possible combat scenario for your specific location.
The Logistics
The logistics included in purchasing and maintaining an Israel Protection K9 for your school vary from case to case. In general, we prefer to work with security companies and teach the guards how to properly handle the dog. Liability can be taken by the security company, which will in other words manage the schools asset. As previously stated, the logistics need to be discussed and figured out on a school to school basis.
